Mid-Engine Honda CR-Z in Super GT-like guise Spied in Japan

Found on the GT Channel website, are these photos of a Honda CR-Z racer with a widebody mock up and what appears to be a mid-mounted engine. The unfinished project also gets carbon fiber doors. We don't have any information on the mystery car, but chances are it's either being readied to compete in Japan's Super GT racing series or to be displayed as a concept model at an upcoming motor show such as the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2011. More photos after the jump.

New Honda Fit / Jazz Hybrid: First Official Pictures, will Debut in Paris

These are the first official photos of Honda's Paris Motor Show-bound, Fit / Jazz Hybrid. Until recently, it was not clear if the subcompact hybrid model would be launched in markets outside Japan. And while now we know that the hybrid model will make its way to Europe, Honda officials have yet to announce any plans to offer the car in North America.

The newest member of the Japanese firm's hybrid family employs the same 1.3-liter gasoline engine and a continuously-variable automatic transmission with an electric motor sandwiched. We don't have output figures yet, but don't expect any significant differences over Honda's dedicated hybrid model.

To differentiate the hybrid version from the standard Jazz / Fit models, there is a new grille and front bumper design, while the head lamp and tail light crystals have been re-trimmed. The hybrid model also gets what appears to be a panoramic glass top.

Along with the pictures of the European market model, we also have some leaked brochure shots of the JDM version which is scheduled to arrive in japanes showrooms in October with prices rumored to begin at around 1.6 million yen, or about US$19,000 / €15,100 at the current exchange rates.

More details should be announced before the opening of the Paris Motor this September.

See What Honda is Doing With the 2010 Honda Pilot

All-new for 2009, the 2010 Honda Pilot keeps the venerable 3.5L V6 VTEC engine for 2010. Along with fascia and interior changes, Honda rolled out this engine for the Pilot in the 2009 refresh. This new engine, designated as J35Z4, replaces and is derived from the old J35A9 engine that powered Pilots in 2005-2008 models.

Unlike in many other SUVs, 2010 Honda Pilot engine options are limited solely to this 3.5 liter V6. This engine puts out a maximum of 250 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque, yet returns a respectable EPA fuel economy of 17 miles per gallon on city streets and 23 miles per gallon on the highway. This is a notable improvement over the previous model, which produced 10 fewer horsepower, 11 fewer pound-feet of torque and traveled a mile less on a gallon of gasoline both in town and on the highway.

The new engine retains the single overhead cam design of it's predecessor, as well as the i-VTEC system. It adds the Variable Cylinder Management system, which shuts down unnecessary cylinders to burn less fuel during stable cruising, but reactivates them under acceleration to provide full power instantaneously. Using the system, the car can run on four or even as few as three cylinders under a light load at cruising speeds. An Active Noise Cancellation system uses speakers to cancel out unpleasant sound produced by the imbalanced cylinder load, while an Active Control Engine Mount system adjusts the engine itself to prevent potentially dangerous vibrations.

With most competitors offering powerful V6 or thirsty V8 engines in this segment, the 2010 Honda Pilot engine options strike an appropriate balance between economy and thrust.

Honda Legend/Acura RL won't be aborted

2006 Honda Legend
Following rumours, Honda has denied that it is planning to kill-off the slow-selling Legend executive saloon.

The V6 model is rumoured to be close to an end-of-production run, but Honda chief executive officer, Takanobu Ito says the car is “a necessary model for the U.S” and points out that it has a “small but strong fan base in Japan".

2009 Honda Legend
Rumours over the plan to drop the model in Japan have also increased assumption about its future in the U.S as well.

The Legend, Acura RL in the U.S, is Acura's flagship sedan but Honda has only sold 872 RLs through the first six months of this year. The car was dropped in the UK last year after similarly slow sales. Stupidly, the Legend arrived in the UK with a 3.5 litre VTEC V6 petrol engine.
